On Tuesday 30th September 1986, the ITV Network on ITV Yorkshire Television introduced us to Eric Charles Pollock, played by Christopher Chittell.
Christopher Chittell celebrated 30 years with the second longest running British Soap Opera yesterday which is an amazing accomplishment considering the hard industry the acting world is.
When Eric arrived in Emmerdale Village, it wasn't called Emmerdale Village, it was called Beckindale until 1994.
In one of his earlier storylines, Eric left his then wife, Eileen, but did not divorce her. Worried that she'll track him down, Eric changed his surname to the one we all know and love today, Pollard.
In Eric's early years he was a crook, after being involved in many illicit schemes but, in time, we have grown to love Eric.
Christopher Chittell is the only current actor on Emmerdale's roster to have been in the programme when it was originally called Emmerdale Farm until 1989.
Both Christopher & Eric have gone from strength to strength in the programme reinventing themselves to adapt with the ever changing world we live in.
Emmerdale has been very good to Christopher, as he found love there and married his on-screen co-star, Lesley Dunlop (Brenda Hope), in a beautiful ceremony back in June of this year. They became a couple in 2008.
Unlike Eric, Christopher has done a load of charity work, which certainly balances out his, or Eric's, wicked ways on Emmerdale over the past 30 years.
It has been a pleasure watching Christopher portray Eric in Emmerdale over the past 30 years and I hope he has 30 plus more years left because he plays him so beautifully.
Many congratulations, Christopher, well deserved.
